The aim of this article was to investigate the absence of critical debates on this topic, with regard to the training and performance of psychologists in this field. Material and methods: The research was exploratory in nature with qualitative analysis of the data. Results and discussion: The participants pointed out weaknesses regarding the content and discussions about Public Mental Health Policies during their training in Psychology and reported difficulties regarding the performance models established in the substitute services (CAPS). Final considerations: It was found that much still needs to be advanced, both in research and in the knowledge produced and obtained in the training universities, as well as in the role models of psychologists who deal with the daily work in the CAPS. Keywords: professional practice in psychology, psychosocial care center (CAPS), psychology training, public policy, mental health. Expandir Resumo Acessar Texto Completo

Políticas públicas para a saúde do idoso – uma análise acerca das atuais políticas públicas voltadas para o idoso

Resumo: This article aims to discuss about public policies that are aimed at the elderly in Brazil. Thus, this discussion is necessary because many elderly people still feel discriminated against in our country, because often the treatment given to them in society does not correspond with their reality. Many elderly people can still contribute a lot to the growth of our society and can also engage in the labor market, with the exception of those who have some pathology. Old age is not a disease, but a natural process of the human being that does not prevent them from thinking and acting in society. Our discussion is based on the Statute of the Elderly and on authors such as Soares (2012), Boneti (1997), among others who are dedicated to the study of the theme. Keywords: elderly, elderly health, public policies, autonomy. Expandir Resumo Acessar Texto Completo

In addition to the descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation was calculated and the result was 0.98, at the 5% level, which confirms that the correlation value is significant.
